What Does Numbers 6:24–26 Mean?
Numbers 6:24–26 is the Priestly Blessing, also called the Aaronic Blessing. God gave these words to Moses for Aaron and his sons to speak over the people of Israel (Numbers 6:22–27). In three short lines it asks God to protect His people, show them His grace, and give them peace. It is one of the oldest blessings in Scripture and is still spoken over congregations, families and newborns today.
- 01
“The Lord bless you and keep you”
A prayer for God’s provision and protection: that He would give good things and guard the one being blessed.
- 02
“Make his face shine on you and be gracious to you”
A shining face is a sign of delight and favor. This line asks God to look on you with warmth and treat you with undeserved kindness.
- 03
“Turn his face toward you and give you peace”
To turn one’s face toward someone is to give them full attention. The peace here is shalom: wholeness and well-being, not only calm.
